Nightitme Blessings

The dark comes like a blanket
hugging us at night.
The Moon shines like the heart
providing gentle light.
The stars call forth our sparkling dreams
like waves upon the shores.
To greet the nighttime pilgrim
as we journey through sleep's door.

Meal Time Blessing

For sun and rain
For grass and grain
For all who toil
On sea and soil
That we may
Eat this daily food
We give our loving thanks
To thee.

Reposted from Garden Mama.

Thank you for the food we eat.
Thank you for the friends we meet.
Thank you for the family we love.
Thank you for the stars above.

Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

The Elf and Dormouse

Under the toadstool crept a wee elf
Out of the rain to shelter himself.

Under the toadstool, sound asleep
Sat a big Dormouse all in a heap.

Trembled the wee elf, frightened and yet
Fearing to fly away, lest he get wet!

To the next shelter- maybe a mile!
Sudden the wee elf smiled a wee smile.

Tugged til the toadstool toppled in two
Holding it over him, gaily he flew.

Soon he was safe home, dry as can be.
Soon woke the Dormouse- "Good gracious, me!"

"Where is my toadstool?" loud he lamented.
-And that's how umbrellas first were invented.

Meal Time Blessings

I found a blessing I love in the book, the creative family, by amanda blake soule. It seems like the perfect blessing to use before our evening meal.

Earth, we thank you for this food,
For rest and home and all things good,
For wind and rain and sun above,
But most of all for those we love.

Here are others I have found:

Earth that grows for us this food.
Sun that makes it ripe and good.
Dear earth dear sun,
Our loving thanks.
We give to you on this day.

for the golden corn and the honey from the bees
for golden sun and the apples on the trees
for fruits and nuts and berries we gather on our way
we thank our loving Mother Earth.  we thank her everyday

Blessings on the blossom.
Blessings on the fruit.
Blessings on the leaf and stem.
Blessings on the root.

Blessed Be our Hearth and Home,
and our Family, wherever we Roam.
Blessed Be this Food, our Feast
May we always Dwell in Love and Peace.

Lord and Lady, watch over us,
and bless us as we eat.
Bless this food, this bounty of earth,
we thank you, so mote it be.

It's Halloween by Jack Prelutsky

It's Halloween! It's Halloween!

The moon is full and bright

And we shall see what can't be seen

On any other night.

Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls,

Grinning goblins fighting duels,

Werewolves rising from their tombs,

Witches on their magic brooms.

In masks and gowns

We haunt the street

And knock on doors

For trick or treat.

Tonight we are

The king and queen,

For oh tonight

It's Halloween!

Thanks to the Pagan Soccer Mom for posting such a perfect Halloween poem.  What a way to begin this month!

Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater
Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater
Had a wife and couldn't keep her.
He put her in a pumpkin shell
And there he kept her very well.

Five Little Pumpkins

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate,
The first one said, Oh, my it’s getting late!
The second one said, There are owls in the air!
The third one said, But we don’t care!
The fourth one said, Let’s run and run and run!
The fifth one said, I’m ready for some fun!
Then Whoooo went the wind
And out (clap) went the lights
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Pumpkins

When you see me in the fields,
My orange glowing in the sun,
It's time to say goodbye to summer
and hello to autumn fun!!

I’m a Little Pumpkin
(Tune: I’m a Little Tea Pot)

I’m a little pumpkin short and stout.
Here are my eyes and here is my mouth.
When its Halloween and you are out,
Just lift my lid and hear me shout.
Boo!

*****************************************

Mr. Pumpkin
(tune: Where is Thumbkin)

Mr. Pumpkin,
Mr. Pumpkin,
Round and fat.
Round and fat.

Harvest time is coming.
Harvest time is coming.
Yum, yum, yum.
That is that!

Pumpkin Song
(tune: I'm a Little Teapot)

I'm a little pumpkin
Orange and round.

Here is my stem,
There is the ground.

When I get all cut up,
Don't you shout!

Just open me up
And scoop me out!
